Wine (or also referred to as popular in English: wine) is an alcoholic beverage made from essence of Vitisvinifera grape species that normally only grow in the area 30 to 50 degrees latitude north and south. Alcoholic drinks made from juice that alcohol content ranging between 8% to 15% is usually referred to as fruit wine (fruit wine).

Wine is made through fermentation of sugar in the grape. There are several types of wine, namely, Red Wine, White Wine, Rose Wine, Sparkling Wine, Sweet Wine, and Fortified Wine:

• Red Wine is a wine made from red wine (red grapes). Some types of red wine that is famous among the wine drinker in Indonesia is the merlot, cabernet sauvignon, syrah / Shiraz, and pinot noir.

• White Wine is a wine made from white wine (white grape). Some kind of green wine that is famous among the wine drinker in Indonesia is the chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, semillon, riesling and chenin blanc.

• Rose Wine is a wine of pink or rose wine made from red, but with the color extraction process that is shorter than with the process of Red Wine. In the Champagne region, said Rose Wine refers to the mix between the White Wine and Red Wine.

• Sparkling Wine is a wine that has quite a lot of carbondioxide bubbles in it. Sparkling Wine is the most famous Champagne from France. Only Sparkling Wine made from the wine growing village in the Champagne and the Champagne is produced in the village who may be called and labeled Champagne.

• Sweet Wine is a wine that still contain many of the remaining sugar fermentation (residual sugar), so make a sweet taste.

• Fortified Wine is a wine that contains more alcohol than regular wine (between 15% to 20.5%). A high alcohol content this is the result of the addition of spirit in the making process.

Humans have been making wine since about five thousand years ago. Wine is a drink popular in many countries. Countries that residents drink wine most often (using 2000 data) are: France, Italy, the United States, Germany, Spain, Argentina, Britain, China, Russia, and Romania.

If the measurements used are the number per person or per capita, the list becomes: Luxemburg, France, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Switzerland, Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, and Slovenia. Wine is made in many countries. Countries that make most wines (using 2000 data) are: France, Italy, Spain, the United States, Argentina, Germany, Australia, South Africa, Portugal, and Chile. The only wine made in Indonesia that is made from local wine is Hatten Wines.
